Hoops! Scrappy win

Played against a big, physical team. We were up to the task–had the big lineup there. We maintained a small lead throughout, but pushed it up to about ten with two minutes left, and that guaranteed the win because in our league the clock doesn’t stop unless the lead is under six. So with two minutes left you can basically foul to force free throws twice and that’s it. Fun game, but once again nagging achilles soreness after.

Four in the Rain

Suffering from tired legs after yesterday’s 10k run, but I must continue my program of running of last week’s sustained stretch of bad living. Also, if I’m going to run another half in what, six weeks? Then I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. So did my usual four mile route, and felt a bit labored. Fairly slow time. But I’m ok with that. Just laying a base here.  Also, it rained on me, which is good. It’s nice to run in weather sometimes. Ennobling, even. And I could use some of that when my run otherwise kinda sucks.

More Two 5ks Than One 10k

Yesterday was one of those days where they close down Lake Washington Blvd from Mt Baker Park down to Seward Park. I took the kids down to the former and we traveled to the latter–me running, they setting the pace on their bikes. Then I let them play for over an hour at the Seward playground before running back.  I haven’t run much in the last few weeks and have been/still am quite worried about my sore achilles tendon. It was a bit sore after, but I iced it aggressively and it feels pretty good today (Monday). The run itself was a little labored, as I expected…need to get more miles in, for sure. I may try another one this afternoon and see how it goes.

Beautiful San Francisco Run

I was lucky enough to be in San Francisco this week, and the weather there has been stunningly beautiful. I should really have run both mornings I was there, but was only able to get out there this morning. At 7:30 it was sunny and in the sixties. I made my way to the Ferry Terminal building and starting running north and west up the Embarcadero, through the Fisherman’s warf tourist area and ending at Marine Park. I’m told the done thing is to keep going and make your way through Fort Mason Green and find the San Francisco Bay trail, which can take you all the way to a headland under the Golden Gate Bridge. I need to try that one day, although it looks to me like that would be a ten mile round trip, which is a lot on a working morning. In any event, I turned around at the end of Marine Park, for a round trip of only 4.5.  A beautiful run!

Slower, Better Run

Stunningly gorgeous day in Seattle. Managed to get out again today after yesterday’s difficult run, and had a much better run today. Came in slower than yesterday, but that’s actually better. Today I was able to find a steady pace that felt comfortable, and part of that is slowing down a little bit. Have to keep an eye on the right heel and make sure it doesn’t get too slow.

Finally! Another Run

Wasn’t able to get out for a run any time in the last week, mostly due to work conflicts. Finally was able to get out there again, for another rather painful run. Time wasn’t bad, but it sure wasn’t comfortable. I need to get out there more so this feels better again!

Epic Hoops Loss

Only five of us, so each of us had to run the whole game. We were playing a physical team with a deep bench, but we out-fought and out-played them the whole game, right up until the last two minutes…when the pressure got to us. We let them press us, we let them score, and then…it pains me to admit it…I Chris Webber-ed us. Up three, trying to in-bound the ball, I saw their press had all our guys covered, so I called timeout. Only we didn’t have one. Just like in the national championship game, that was a technical–two free throws and the ball. They made the shots, then hit a jumper, and for the first time we were behind. And we never recovered. Tough, tough loss.

Eagle Run

Well, just a normal four mile run, really, except I saw an eagle. The eagle was cool. The run was not. Really one of my tougher ones…felt like I had steel bands around my chest keeping my breathing labored, and my over-heavy breakfast was not sitting well either. Time itself was not bad, but I had to work pretty hard to get it. I think I just need to get more miles in.

Epic Hoops Win

Has an entire week really gone by without my getting a single run in? Regrettably, that’s how it looks. (There is a good explanation–my wife was out of town and I was a solo dad for most of that time, so it was impossible to get to work early or leave late, so it was hard to get time at lunch. Whatever. Must be rectified.)

In any event, this game was a chance for a LOT of exercise because we were playing the big court at Interbay and we only had 5 guys. I had the center duty and was worried about pacing myself, but it worked out great. In fact, I’d say I didn’t really start to feel good until halfway through the second half–after that I stopped looking at the clock at all and just ran. We played extremely well and won by about 10. Two of our guys shot the lights out. I didn’t score a single point but had five blocks and must have pulled down at least 20 boards. Absolutely great game.

Hoops! Nice win on the big court

Played at Interbay tonight, which is a full size court. It isn’t until you play on one that you’re reminded that not all the other courts we play on are full size. Lots of extra space to run around. We played a good team tonight, but fortunately for us it was the second night of a double-header, and they were pretty gassed in the second half. As their legs went, the 3s started to rim out, and we pulled away. Great workout.
