Barefoot Beach Run in La Jolla

On vacation with the family, and needed to sneak a run in this morning. Decided to try a barefoot run on the beach. The weather was cool and slightly humid, with a marine layer of mist/fog between me and the sun. Started at the La Jolla Beach and Racquet Club and ran north through a state park, past a bunch of private homes, under a pier, to the Scripps wild life reserve. The tide was rolling in and I couldn’t make it around a cliff there, so I turned there and headed back. My watch told me there and back was two miles. Felt good, so I ran the whole route again.

The run felt very good–great, in fact, except I could tell as I ran the last mile that I was going to have some blisters to contend with afterwards. And I was right. Been limping around a bit with blisters on the first two toes of both feet. Have to see where they are tomorrow..I may be done running for this vacation, with only two days left!

Hoops! Short-handed win

What does it say when you only have four guys, so you have to pick up two random dudes at the gym to fill out your team, and suddenly your team seems better? Frankly, I’d rather not think about it. We won. That’s the main thing. Also, I’m fairly pleased with how I played on both ends of the floor. Was able to shoot over the guy guarding me. Finished with 10 or so. Should have been 20, but I’ll take the 10. Also, ran the entire game, which felt great.

Weigh-in: 214.6 yesterday, 216.8 today (4/10)

Birthday 10K Around Lake Union!

Well, I wanted to do it ON my birthday, which was three days ago, but child care etc. Today was my first opportunity to try for a long one. I just looked back and discovered that I haven’t attempted the full run around Lake Union since early March of last year.  Happy to say this was a faster time than that one, although in this case I had the benefit of waiting for a bridge that was up, which (according to my rules) means I get to stop the clock and get the benefit of a short rest. I did have a handful of rest breaks on the back half, but I have to say it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. Plus, I finished strong, with a long solid run from the turn on to Eastlake all the way to the end.

Weight–been hovering in the usual 216.8 range, but this morning strangely I was down to 215.4.  Hmm…..

Hoops - Losing the Winnable Game

Without two of our best players, including our center–I had to anchor the defense and played all but a few seconds. Didn’t score much but played decent defense and for the most part kept the ball moving on offense. We led through most of the game but were overtaken towards the end by young legs. Curse you, young legs! But we should have found a way to win, anyway.

Bridge Up

Or I would have run four miles even. But the bridge was going up just as I approached it, so I just turned around and ran back, and tried to add some extra stuff inside South Lake Union Park to make up for it. I misjudged it by a bit. Still, very fast time. (Maybe too fast? Not sure.)

Weight up to 217.8 this morning after a pretty heavy few days of eating. Had been holding steady in the mid 216s.

Cupertino run!

It was supposed to be a 4.1 mile route but I accidentally lopped off a corner of it, so I’m calling it 3.75. It was a kinda tough one, because I’d rather enjoyed myself over much at dinner the night before, but I got through it. I may try to run it again tomorrow, before I leave town.

Weight was 215.6 before I left town…

Tough Run

Sunny but cold. I ran the usual four mile route at lunch. Felt fine on the way out, but I just couldn’t get into a rhythm on the way back and kept having to do short stops. Like last Friday, not so much a lack of wind as much as dead legs. Finished a lot faster than last week though.

Weigh-ins: Wednesday and Thursday were both 214.6. Today–216.8.

Hoops! Solid Win

Finally played a team we were clearly better than.  Up ten nothing at the start, which was good because we held a ten point lead pretty much throughout. They made a little run to close to 3 at one point, and we made a run to push it back to 10, and that was about it.

I made one layup and missed about ten, so that kinda sucked. But my D was ok. And I ran nearly the entire game.

Cool Day and a Stronger Run

Took the weekend off, and then couldn’t get out yesterday despite lovely weather, so it’s been four days since my last run. I guess my legs bounced back. I put in a pretty fast time for the four miler. Took a few seconds of walking at the turnaround point, but then ran it solid all the way back. Maybe the cold and cloudy weather helped.

Weight has been monotonously hovering around 216.8–sometimes a little lower, sometimes a little higher. This morning was higher–217.2.

Slower Today

Another pleasant day–actually, I think I may have perfectly timed my run for a sun break–and I punched a hole in my late morning schedule for another four miler. It was a harder, slower run than yesterday. Not because of my lungs, which felt fine all the way through actually. Rather, I just had dead legs, and felt I needed to rest a few times on the way back. Was starting to feel sore in a few tendons, so rather than push myself I was content to finish a full minute slower than yesterday. Oh well-the important thing is getting the run in!

Weigh-in: 216.8, again.
